500 Days of Summer

(500) Days of Summer
I recently watched the movie "500 Days of Summer," with Zooey Deschanel. I have always admired her sense of style and her singing voice too! It has such a unique ethereal quality to it!
As for her character in the movie, Summer, I wasn't to sure I could relate to her very well. What I did enjoy very much was her sense of style. The world around her seemed to be moving so quickly, but Summer always looked calm and cool. Maybe it had to do with the fact that she was always wearing clothes in cool "blue hues."  She looked very put together. Despite my thoughts about the movie itself (I didn't like the relationship dynamic) I was drawn to Summer's unique style in the movie! Here are some looks I feel embody the essence of Summer's whimsical look from the film!

"Whimsey"- My personal Style

Over the years I have "tried on" many different fashion trends to see what best fits. Sometimes I thought to myself, go vintage, look for styles inspired by Audrey Hepbern or Lucille Ball, they are feminine & flirty. But for some reason it didn't quite stick. Maybe I found it to be too cliche or not unique enough? Then I found japanese fashions inspired by Lolita looks. These looks had all the things I loved - lace, pearls, the color pink. But still it wasn't the right fit! Everything looked too young, and while I understand that to be the whole point - looking innocent, young and wholesome, I certainly didn't need my clothes to help me look that way! I already looked young! Next I tried to go the opposite direction and tried to dress like a grown up. I started shopping at places such as Ann Taylor Loft and NY & Co. Some of their clothes are very wearable and interesting!!

Through this journey of self-discovery I found out one thing is clear. My personal style, is just that -- personal. It can't be found at any one store or from any one era. I know what elements I require and I have coined my personal style term as something I call "whimsey"
Whimsey encompasses all things feminine - soft pastels, bold florals, pearls, lace, ruffles, flowing lines & ribbons yet in an understated/sophisticated way.

Here is an example of a Spring Look in Whimsey style:
